Advanced Chemical Peels vs Superficial Resurfacers
Unsure whether you need more Advanced Chemical Peels or Superficial Resurfacers read on to understand the differences.
DermaQuest Advanced Peels are more intensive corrective treatment.
The advanced peel category is intended for more significant skin correction where the skin is stable and can tolerate a stronger treatment.
DermaQuest's current professional range includes self-neutralising options such as the Intelligent Jessner's Peel, MelaQuest Pigmentation Peel and Chloroacetic Acid Peel. These can provide more progressive correction but require more careful assessment and preparation.
Think:
→ pigmentation
→ significant texture concerns
→ congestion/acne
→ photodamage
→ fine lines
→ more visible skin renewal
→ greater potential downtime
DermaQuest Resurfacers are gentler, controlled renewal working on a more superficial level.
Resurfacing treatments are designed for milder exfoliation with minimal barrier disruption. They can be particularly appropriate for sensitive skin, first-time clients or as maintenance between more corrective treatments.
DermaQuest's Lactic Acid resurfacer is designed for more sensitive skin in need of hydration & brightening. Where as Peptide focuses on aging skin & pumpkin as an overall Resurfacer for acne, aging & brightening.
Think:
→ hydration + radiance
→ smoother texture
→ gentle renewal
→ little downtime
→ suitable for building treatment tolerance
The simplest way to explain it is -
Resurfacing = gentle skin renewal
Advanced Peels = deeper, more intensive correction.

FAQ's
Do I need skin preparation?
Yes, depending on the treatment. All advanced peels require skin prep & some resurfacers.
Skin preparation helps ensure your skin barrier is in the best possible condition before an advanced peel and can help improve treatment tolerance and outcomes.
At Aesthetics Fifty Five, your skin will be assessed and you will be advised on the appropriate preparation before treatment
Will my skin peel?
It depends on the treatment and your individual skin. Some DermaQuest treatments produce minimal visible peeling, while advanced chemical peels can result in more noticeable shedding over several days. Not peeling heavily does not necessarily mean that the treatment has not worked. Some people have more dead skin to shed than others. It's rare you will experience peeling with resurfacers so these are sometimes a preferred choice as they have very little downtime.
How many treatments will I need?
This depends on your skin and your goals. DermaQuest's professional guidance allows for courses of treatments, with the current guidance indicating up to six resurfacers or three chemical peels in a course, followed by an appropriate break before another course.
Your treatment plan will be personalised rather than automatically following a set course.
Do I need a consultation?
Yes. A professional assessment allows us to look at your skin, discuss your concerns and determine whether your skin is ready for a peel.
At Aesthetics Fifty Five, we don't simply choose a peel from a menu. Your treatment is selected as part of your individual skin plan, based on what your skin needs now and where we want to take it next.
